Involved with the NHRA since a baby Mike Johnson and his family have been participating and following the sport of drag racing for decades. Mike first learned about the dangers of illegal street racing while serving in the armed forces in Hawaii.

It was in Hawaii in 2004, and it involved two Eclipses racing on the H1 highway. Both were driven by US Army soldiers, and 3 of 4 in the two cars were killed along with one of the people in the state truck that they both hit. Since I was in the Army, in Hawaii, it peaked my interest, and then when I realized where on H1 it was, it got me thinking, since I lived right off the exact exit where the crash occurred.

Shortly thereafter Mike started Keeping Kids Alive, a program determined to educate kids to pursue racing on the track.
