Professional athletes are amongst the highest paid people in the world.  Living in a world of excess they have the ability to buy the best that life has to offer with Supercars acting as a prize possession.  Unfortunately the competitive spirit of a few professional athletes was best left on the playing field when they made the poor decision of entering into an illegal street race.

Josh Howard (2008 United States)

The media reported that Josh Howard a professional basketball player in the NBA for the Dallas Mavericks in 2008 was arrested and accused of illegal street racing in North Carolina.  Police reported that he was seen speeding in his Lexus at 94 mph in a 45mph zone as he entered into an illegal street race with a person driving a Volkswagen.  After a presentation of evidence from the arresting officer and Josh Howard’s testimony in court it was found that the Volkswagen never stopped and the court was unable to prove that Howard was guilty of “spontaneous” illegal racing.  The court reduced the sentence from illegal street racing to a 30-day suspended sentence and ordered him to pay $200 in court costs.Fine Sign

According to state attroney’s office spokeswoman Danielle Tavernier, Atwal could have been charged with participating in a street race; however, their office never received a citation from the highway patrol.  Florida Highway Patrol investigators did however recommended Atwal be charged with vehicular homicide.  After a year of investigation the case was closed and no charges were filed.
